Data Literacy: Building 21st Century Skills in the Adult Education Math Classroom
Self-paced
Full course description
Michigan Adult Education is excited to announce a professional development opportunity specially designed for Michigan adult educators. Our self-paced course is available on the Keywe professional development catalog and aims to provide educators with the tools to help adult learners master data literacy kills.
Data literacy, in its simplest form, is the ability to use data effectively to make informed decisions. Data literacy is a fundamental skill required for success in the modern data-driven world, from the classroom to the workforce. 87% of leaders recognize that data literacy is the most critical skill future employees must have beyond basic computer skills (State of Data Literacy Report, 2023). Data-literate adults are critical thinkers who can make informed decisions and create accurate predictions for the future. The math classroom is the perfect environment to begin to build these skills! This self-paced course will discuss how to embed data literacy into educators’ math instructional practice strategically. By reviewing and sharing resources, examples, and best practices, educators will leave this session with practical tools and strategies to incorporate data literacy into their classrooms.
By the end of this training, participants should be able to:
- Describe the importance of data literacy skills for adult learners in the classroom and beyond.
- Identify the Math College and Career Readiness Standards that support and align with data literacy skills.
- Apply best practices of data literacy to your instructional practice.
The course is free and allows participants to earn 1 SCECH credit when completing the coursework.
